Only a week remains until high school cross country and track and field athletes can begin signing their National Letter of Intents with college programs.

This can be an exciting and stressful time for teenagers trying to decide where they will spend the next four or five years.

For Hamm, signing with Virginia Tech seems like a natural fit. Hamm is the top high school boys pole vaulter in the U.S. and Virginia Tech assistant Bob Phillips is a legendary figure in the event who has coached pole vault at the school for 37 years.
