As national signing day approaches, more track and cross country athletes are committing to colleges, an accomplishment for them and for coaches who are trying to secure future talent.

Below, we evaluate four recent commitments to major women's college programs. 



Cady McPhail, Chelsea (AL)

Commitment: Auburn University


McPhail, a middle-distance specialist and cross country runner, won't be heading too far away for college. Her high school, Chelsea, is outside of Birmingham and about 95 miles northwest of Auburn's campus.

McPhail burst onto the scene as a sophomore in 2020-21, running personal bests indoors in the 3,200m (11:05.30) and mile (4:58.63) and outdoors in the 800m (2:09.91), which was the 47th-fastest time in the U.S. that year, as well as the mile (4:58.37) and 3,200m (10:53.09).
