Eliana Black Won The Race, Bolles Won The War
- - -
This early in the season, pitting two state championship teams against one another is a sure-bet for fireworks, right?
It's a win-win.
And sure enough, that was the setting on Friday at the Cecil Field Summer Classic when the returning Class 2A champion Bolles girls went head-to-head against Class 1A winner Cambridge Christian.
Something had to give.
And indeed it did. While CC's Eliana Black won the overall race in a time of 17:46 -- a top 20 time nationally -- Bolles' depth stole the show, as the squad from Jacksonville posted a winning total of 109 points, 31 points clear of Cambridge Christian.
While CC had its first three in over the first 13 places, its four and five struggled to find the right form on the day.
Reigning Class 2A state winner Jilian Candelino was second overall in 18:13, while CC's Madeleine Gear was fifth in 18:27.
