The final seconds of the Invitational 500m produced a physical reaction -- literally.
As Schwartzman, a recent transfer to IMG Academy from Wild Rose High School in Wisconsin, dove to the line hoping to produce a race-winning-move on Sunday, he fell to hard on his shoulder, leading to a broken clavicle.
He walked away with his arm in a sling.
But hey, leave nothing behind, right?
The race was evidence enough that Schwartzman was a gamer, the kind of athlete who puts his body-and-soul into a race effort. While the University of North Carolina signee did not win, losing by a thousandth-of-a-second to Ohio's Justin Braun, he scored a mark that will stand for some time.
His finishing time of 1:02.67 is currently US No. 8 all-time at the distance. On the Florida charts, it's No. 2 all-time, just behind Tyrese Cooper's mark of 1:01.88 from 2017.
He also anchored IMG Academy's winning 4x400 relay with a closing 47.97 lap, helping the Ascenders to a US No. 1 time of 3:16.98. That team performance is No. 18 all-time indoors.
