Why Their Commitment Matters: During the 2019 outdoor season, Sprout won the Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational, Brooks PR and two Colorado State Track and Field Championships. The senior and Nico Young were almost identical on paper toward the end of last season.
However, Sprout opened up his cross country season with the fastest 5K ever run in Colorado (14:38.40), and then improved that performance at the Nike Desert Twilight Festival by 22 seconds for the third-fastest time in high school history. Sprout recently just won his third consecutive state championship in cross country on Oct. 26.
