5 Events To Watch At The Great Southwest Classic

Hurdle Events

WhenSaturday, June, 8
3:50pm (MT) 100 Meter High Hurdles Girls
4:35pm (MT)  110 Meter High Hurdles Boys

Who:

GirlsJalaysi'ya Smith (TX), Jayla Hollis (TX), Anna Hall (CO), Myreanna Bebe (AZ)
Boys: Zion Gordon (CO), Grant Conway (MO).

Why: The DeSoto (TX) duo of Jayla Hollis and Jalaysi'ya Smith will headline this field. They went 1-2 at the UIL Texas State meet and have run some of the fastest times in the nation this year. Hollis holds an all-conditions PR of 13.39 while Smith holds a PR of 13.24 (+1.4).

University of Georgia signee and Colorado State Track and Field Champion Anna Hall will look to improve on her 100mH PR of 14.03, which she ran last year at the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic in the heptathlon. Presumably, this weekend Hall -- who is the heptathlon national record holder -- is focusing on the 100mH, 200m, and 800m to for further training--she's entered in the heptathlon at the USA Junior National Championships later in the month

Other big names to watch will be AIA Division I State Champion and Queen Creek High School's (AZ) Myreanna Bebe. Bebe holds a PR of 13.81 (+1.2) from theNike Chandler Rotary Invitational earlier this season.

The boys 110mH should be solid as well featuring FK Elite's Zion Gordon (CO) and St. James High School Grant Conway (MO). Gordon has run a wind-legal 13.77 this year while Conway has run a wind-legal 13.93 (+0.9). Conway how ever has clocked a faster all-conditions mark of 13.46 (+4.2). With these guys being so close to each other we should see them push towards a great time.
