The Scoop: Penn Relays Recap And A Big Weekend In Texas

Jabari Bryant Is Ready For States With US No. 1 300mH

In a general sense, stars sometimes tend to deflect attention from emerging athletes elsewhere.

For instance, Miami Northwestern's Thomas Burns was so good in the 300mH over the last three seasons that it was easy to overlook the fact that just dropping under 37 seconds was remarkable.

Without Burns in 2019 -- he graduated and moved on to the University of Miami -- that relevance is more glaring than ever.

This weekend, Tallahassee Rickards (FL) senior Jabari Bryant officially broke out in a big way, going under 37 seconds at his Region Class 2A-1 Championships in a winning time of 36.81 seconds.

He's one of just six athletes nationwide to have gone under that elusive 37-second barrier, and he'll likely jumpstart this event over the course of the next few weeks by other athletes.

Before Saturday, Bryant's previous best at the distance was 37.07 seconds. He was the Class 2A runner-up a year ago as well.

With the Florida State Championships approaching next weekend in Jacksonville, Bryant picked a good time to PR.

Beyond the 300mH, Bryant qualified for states in the 110mH (14.32).
