3. Don't Forget About Alahna Sabbakhan In The DMV
There's been a lot of press about Bullis School as of late. The Maryland-based program has rightfully received a lot of kudos for their weekly ventures on the track.
But as a result, another sprinter in the DMV has gone a little under the radar.
St. John's College (DC) School's Alahna Sabbakhan was one of the nation's top sprint prospects a year ago, but up until the Dr. Sander Invitational on Saturday, the junior hadn't exploded like most of Bullis' sprinters.
Don't sleep on Sabbakhan anymore.
On Saturday, she went a new US No. 1 time of 1:31.80 in the 600m at the Armory in New York City, finishing second to Canadian prospect Aurora Rynda, who scored a time of 1:30.69.
Generally, that effort would stack up in most years as a top three performance, but it also gives insight into Sabbakhan's versatility. She's gone 41.98 in the 300m, a US No. 8 mark of 1:15.22 in the 500m and a US No. 21 time of 2:16.29 in the 800m.
It remains to be seen how Sabbakhan will fare in the 200m and 400m this postseason, but the junior certainly is starting to break through.
