What to watch: California vs. Texas!

Great Oak will make their season debut after graduating nearly everyone from the 2015 NXN title-winning team. They still pick up the No. 5 ranking on the Saucony Flo50, but this will be an interesting run against teams who have tested themselves already.

Claremont moved up to No. 21 in the Saucony Flo50 national rankings after taking down Brea Olinda by 72 points at the Cool Breeze Evening Invitational. They also recently won the Palomares League Cluster and have been led by two different runners in both races: Ryan Renken and Owen Bishop.

Texas squad Southlake Carroll easily won the team title at Marcus I behind race champion and No. 4-ranked Reed Brown, who will be in contention for the individual win here. He'll be challenged by No. 7-ranked Cooper Teare, who is making his season debut, and No. 18 Luis Grijalva, who won the Rated section last year in 14:48.2.

Luis Grijalva after winning the 2014 Woodbridge Rated race:

Steven Khan of Ayala High School could pull off an upset. The senior won the Great Cow Run in 14:28.86, the fastest three-mile time in California and the nation this year.

No. 18 Madera South has not raced yet.
