12/20 Weekend National Rundown

December 19, 2014 - December 20, 2014 @ Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA

Grant Holloway is a hurdling machine! Drops national leading 55H time down to 7.24!

  • Grant Holloway, the junior at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Virginia has gotten off a fast start in the 2014-2015 indoor season. Back to back US #1 performances for the returning New Balance Nationals All-American indoor hurdler including a new personal best and VA #4 all-time clocking of 7.23 in the finals of the 55 meter hurdles on Friday night at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. Holloway's time tied the meet record of 7.23 set by former Texas A&M collegiate standout and high school national record holder in Wayne Davis (Southeast Raleigh NC, 2008).

Holloway was not the only US #1 performance from day one at Boo Williams. Phoebus (VA) senior Carolyn Brown also rolled in her finals of the girls 55 meter dash with a then US #1 clocking of 7.08 (ended up being US #3 by weekend's end). Brown, who has ran under 7 seconds multiple times in the past, certainly will not be satisfied with that time and looking to improve upon her season best as we enter 2015.

The Maggie Walker girls 4x800 won the relay event with a US #4 time of 9:46. It was a sweep for the program, who have now won two straight Virginia 2A state cross country titles for both boys and girls in consecutive falls, with the Green Dragon boys taking first as well in 8:19.

The Western Branch girls showed off their relay prowess with meet titles in the 4x400m (US #1 3:52.63, new meet record!), 4x200m (US #2 1:42.6) and 4x55m shuttle hurdle relay (31.77, new facility record!). As if that wasn't enough... WB also had an individual US #2 performance from Jewel Smith, who launched a 18'11.25" mark in girls long jump on day 2.
