10/11 High School XC Weekend Recap

Clovis Invitational (CA)

October 11, 2014 Woodward Park in Fresno, CA

Destiny Collins after her 16:57 winning perforamce, ten second before 2nd place Fiona O'Keeffe

Elijah Armstrong after his winning run of 15:01, beating Blake Haney's time from last year

The third stop on what many Californians know as the "Big Four" (Woodbridge, Stanford, Clovis, and Mt. Sac) was the Clovis Invite. Conveniently located in central California and being the site for the California State meet makes it prime for a huge meet, chock-full of some of the finest Californian harriers as well as some out of state racers.

For example, Elijah Armstrong from Idaho took the trip from Idaho. Armstrong did not leave Woodward Park empty handed as he captured the victory in the Boys Championship Race with a solid 15:01 on a hilly course. In light of getting third to Philip Rocha's 2nd place at the Woodbridge Classic three weeks ago, Kasey Knevelbaard flipped the script this time around and beat Rocha as they were the next two runners to come in behind Armstrong. US #8 Great Oak took the win handily despite a few of its guys having off days.

Clovis Invite marked the third major invitational where the Great Oak program swept the team titles as the girls also were victorious. They remarkably put five girls in before any teams second runner, proving their worth as the top ranked team in the nation. Destiny Collins led the wolf pack with her 16:57 win, ten seconds in front of Fiona O'Keeffe of Davis. Collins' time was a mere two seconds off of the Asics Clovis Invite meet record set by Ukiah Trotter in 2001.
