<span style="font-size: 14px;">The first ever MileSplit All-American Teams for this past 2014 outdoor track & field season are being released this week. The selection process included taking into consideration multiple factors but not limited to: season best performances and national rankings, consistency and body of work, finishes in major championship and post-season meets as well as a head-to-head results against other top national ranked competition in their event were all used to determine the top 8 individuals and relays to make up our All-American squads.</span></p>
With four sub 1:50 races, Derek Holdsworth of Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia had more than anyone else in the country this past outdoor season. Holdsworth was one of the most consistent top performers nationally in the event with an early season US #1 1:50 at the Colonial Relays, running another 1:50 in the driving rain at the Southern Track Classic, and claiming another state title in Virginia with a 1:50 performance at the VHSL 3A State Meet.
In the post-season, Holdsworth found himself right in the thick of things challenging for the win in every major races leading the New Balance Nationals 800 until the last stretch for his first sub 1:50. He then changed up his strategy to wait to make his move to take the Brooks PR Invitational many of those selected to the MileSplit All-American team. In his last race of the year, Holdsworth fell just short of reeling in second place and a spot on the World Junior team with a 3rd place finish of 1:49.07 at US Junior Nationals in the 800 finals after running his PR of 1:48.97 in the prelims.
The following 8 individuals have been selected to the MileSplit All-American Team in the boys 800 meter run from the 2014 outdoor season. They have been chosen by MileSplit as the 8 best national performers in their event from this past spring.
