The 2018 BYU Autumn Classic had a last minute course change due to fires around Provo, Utah, but that didn't stop Milesplit50 No. 12 Grant Gardner from chalking up another win on Saturday.

Gardner clocked a winning effort of 15:17.30 for the 5K course. The senior was over 15-seconds ahead of American Fork's Luke Grundvigwho earned second-place honors in 15:34.20.

Gardner had been hoping to throw down at BYU for a lot of reasons. He knew the course well--it was three 1-mile loops around a flat terrain--and knew how to attack it. He had commented last week at The Murray Invitational that he had wanted to go out for a massive effort on the course and expected fast times (see video above).

But things don't always go to plan.

His win on Saturday on the Utah State University campus was still mighty impressive.

Grundvig, meanwhile, led No. 6 ranked American Fork to 83 points, followed by Skyridge (91) and Davis (127). American Fork had a 59-second spread and a 16:08 average.
