This year's class of junior boys is strong in the 1600m.
Many of the boys in the class of 2020 have improved vastly since their freshman years. Valor Christian's (CO) Cole Sprout has the fastest time this year in the 1600m for not just the junior class but all grade levels. Sprout ran a 4:07.20 to win the Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational. He improved to that mark after running 4:22.01 his freshman year and 4:12.75 his sophomore year.
Sprout is not the only junior who has made big improvements year-over-year. Another emerging name is Highland High Schools (AZ) Leo Daschbach. Daschbach went from running 4:44.32 his freshman year to running 4:10.64 his sophomore year, and now in his junior year he's already clocked a 4:11.66.
Lincoln-Way East's (IL) Brett Gardner has made almost as much of an improvement as Daschbach did from freshman year to junior year. As a freshman, Gardner ran 4:30.13, he then improved to 4:24.73 his sophomore year, and this year he's clocked a 4:11.44.
