DOGGETT NAMED GATORADE NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Three days after the high school national championships wrapped in Eugene, Gatorade announced Melanie Doggett of Landmark Christian School in Fairburn, Georgia as its 2025-26 National Girls Track and Field Player of the Year. She was chosen out of nearly half a million girls who compete in the sport across the country, joining a list of past winners who have combined for more than 73 Olympic gold medals.

She found out the way these things tend to go: a surprise assembly at school, teammates and family in the room, followed by a full day of styling, photos, and interviews. She is 15 and a freshman, carries a weighted 4.0 GPA, and spends her off-track hours reading to elementary schoolers and helping run field day at a local school. As a ninth grader she is an inspiration. Her talent, at her age, resets what people think is possible. She starts her sophomore year this fall, and her summer isn't finished either.
