Provo, Utah 7th grader Angelina Alder broke her own 13 Year Old Mile World Record at the Brooks PR Invitational in Renton, Washington running 4:38.25 to win the Middle School Mile.
Alder previously set the 12 year old and 13 year old Mile World Record at the Carolina Distance Carnival earlier this year running a 4:40.98. The 7th grader turned 13 a few weeks before, but had her 13 Year Old World Record as well as getting under the 14 Year Old World Record of 4:40.10 set by Mary Decker Indoors in 1973.
The field was very competitive as 19 girls competed and were pretty bunched up during the opening 400m. Alder would narrowly sit out front as she'd go through the opening 409m in 1:12.11. She'd hold lead position over the second lap leading a group of seven girls through the halfway mark in 2:23.02.
On the third lap things would pick up slightly as Alder, Brianna Reilly (SD) and Amelia Bazeley (CAN) pulled ahead of the field and Alder slightly pulling away at the front. After coming through the bell at 3:32.86 Alder had to get moving, and shifted into a higher gear quickly pulling away from Reilly in Bazeley.
Alder would fly around the track closing in 1:05.39 for the final 400m and 2:15.24 for the final 800m to take the Brooks PR Middle School Mile title in 4:38.25 setting a new PR and breaking 4:40 for the first time. While the mark broke the 13 and 14 Year Old Age Group Record, it was also under the Middle School Mile National Record of 4:40.16 set by Sadie Engelhardt in 2021 at the RunningLane Track Championships.

Reilly would take second ahead of Bazeley in very impressive times of 4:44.55 and 4:45.74. The race also had two other 7th graders in the top 5 as Isla Rahmer (NM) took fourth in 4:51.66 and Savannah Brondstetter (WA) took fifth in 4:51.99.
Alder's time was the fastest of three Girls Mile races run at Brooks PR with the Freshman Mile being won in 4:41.41 by Evangeline Johnson Hess (OR), and the Invitational Girls Mile being won in 4:39.11 by Aelo Curtis (CA).
