It's been a fast fall for the veteran middle school athletes this season. Just 4 years ago, running under 10-minutes before high school was relatively unheard of - now, it's a new normal.
Luke Surface of North Raleigh Christian Academy has one of the best wins of the middle school cross country season, which came last month at the Friday Night Lights XC Festival in the Tar Heel State. Surface raced to a 10:01.30 2-mile, 58 seconds faster than his personal best from last year and is currently ranked 13th in the nation (depending on the legitimacy of the Rattler Invitational).
