Weekend Rewind: 7 Storylines To Know From The Past 7 Days

6. Cooper Lutkenhaus Performs Big State Double

The Indoor MileSplit50 Champion had yet to make his presence known Outdoors, outside of some strong relay legs. But the sophomore was heading to the State Meet in a tough double which saw the 800m precede the 400m final by only a few events. The 400m would be the more competitive for the true half miler, who clocked an astonishing 1:46.86 Indoors. This wasn't the day for any records.

Regardless, even as Cooper Lutkenhaus (Northwest) knew he had another race coming up, the sophomore made his presence known, clocking a relaxed 1:47.04 for the win and the National Lead. That mark is a new Sophomore National Record, and better than the standing Junior Class National Record as well. It means we are in for a show when the 800m is the sole focus.

As for the 400m? Lutkenhaus would score valuable points taking second in a 46.30, behind the prior National Leader Elijah Ferguson, who won this event in 46.06. Not a bad day's work.
