5. Mia Maxwell Runs Away With The Record
Texas has never been short on sprinters, both male and female. The top times in State Meet history came within the last few years, as Jasmine Montgomery (San Antonio Reagan, TX) ran 11.09 in 2021 to break Sha'Carri Richardson's (Dallas Carter) record of 11.12 from 2018. Both marks had significant wind, over 3.5m/s.
Mia Maxwell (Humble Atascocita, TX) is built different. Unlike the other two, she's truly a dual-event stud. She's currently ranked US #1 in the Triple Jump, of which she won at the Texas State Meet in a windy 42-2.5 performance. However, that only makes what she did in the 100m even more impressive.
The Junior ran away from the field in a wind-legal mark of 11.04. That broke the Texas State and Meet Record, and is good for US #5 All-Time. It betters the mark of 11.09 run by Dana Wilson (Greensboro Day School, NC) earlier this year at the Pepsi Relays. It is also the third fastest time ever run by a Junior in the US.
