Weekend Rewind: 7 Storylines To Know From The Past 7 Days

7. Emmry Ross Reiterates Her Lead

In the heart of NYC, we were set to see a rematch between Indoor National Champ Emmry Ross (Onsted, MI) and Silver Medalist Mackenna Herbst (Carlsbad, CA). Ross had already clocked an impressive 2:01.42 this Season, running unattached in a Collegiate Meet, so the fitness was there. Herbst had been developing her speed, getting her 400m personal best down to 53.92. It was set to be a strong matchup.

What resulted was a mad sprint to the finish, pulling almost the entire field to personal bests. Ross took home the win in a 2:02.30, which would have been the National Leader if not for her own mark. Paige Shepard (Union Catholic, NJ) came nearly within a second of the sophomore National Record, taking silver. Nearly the entire field went under 2:10. The Indoor rematch was not to be, but we'll see many of these names back at the line come Nationals.
