Depending on who you ask, the 400m and 800m are far and away the two toughest events in high school track.
In spite of that, there is a select number of athletes who are really good at both of those events.
Take Vestavia Hills (AL) senior Max Armstrong, for example. He is an elite athlete at both distances and sits at No. 29 in the country for 400m and No. 2 in the 800m.
When combined, he's the best of the best and the only athlete under 2:41.
On the girls side, Alli DeLisi, a junior at Penn Charter (PA, is the fastest combined athlete at the distances right now.
DeLisi sits No. 2 in the nation over 800m and just cracked the top 100 in a very competitive 400m group. She is the only girl to have a combined time that is sub-3:07.
