Throwback: Payton Godsey Pulls Away Late At RXC3

Last December at John Hunt Park was a day to remember.

While the RunningLane XC Championships is famous for its fast course, the muddy and slick conditions last year made the racing more difficult -- though who's really complaining?

It was true cross country.

From the get-go, the girls charged out of their boxes fast. For the first mile, Oaks Christian's Payton Godsey led with a 5:26 split.

With a final surge, the Californian separated herself from the front pack -- ahead of New York favorite Zariel Macchia -- in the last 1K.

Creating more distance between herself and Macchia, Godsey pushed to the tape for the last kick, crossing the line at 17:28.30, six seconds ahead of Macchia.
