The Nolan McGinn experience continued on Saturday at Bowdoin Park.
The Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) senior dispatched his competition cleanly on his way to a 23-second win at NXR New York in Wappinger Falls, securing his second straight bid to Nike Cross Nationals on Dec. 2.
The win marked his 10th straight on the season.
McGinn crossed the line in 15:57.80, which represented a 13-second improvement from his time on the course year-over-year.
"I had a clear goal going out," he said. "Continue the legacy of F-M going to nationals and bringing F-M runners. We have a tradition here, we have a culture. I'm trying to uphold that."
But the performance also echoed just how confident McGinn has become this season. It didn't take long for the Pittsburgh recruit to race ahead, gap the field and then take the tape.
"That was a good cruising pace," he said, "and it worked out for me."
McGinn, however, will be searching for a bit of redemption next week after finishing 81st at NXN a year ago.
"My goal out in Portland is to stay away from all the shininess and sparkliness that Nike puts on. I love what they do for us out there. But it can get distracting. The best thing to do is to live inwardly, focus on what you're doing in the now. Just get in your own headspace and make sure you're focused.
"Get ready to rip," he added. "Got a job to do and I'm just going to do my job."
