Daniel Simmons always thought he would attend BYU.
His parents both graduated from the school and he grew up in American Fork, Utah -- about a half hour from BYU's campus -- before moving to Idaho when he was 10.
But during his freshman year at Salmon High School, Simmons begin considering other colleges.
When he moved back to American Fork last year as a junior, Simmons was even more intrigued about heading out of state for college, especially when numerous NCAA Division I coaches contacted him following an outstanding cross country season.
Simmons won the Utah Class 6A Championships and the Nike Southwest Regional title and finished second at Nike Cross Nationals.
Still, after spending hours communicating with college coaches, he committed in early July to BYU. It was the only school he visited.
