As his quest begins for his first Minnesota state title, Minneapolis Southwest senior Sam Scott opened up the year with a 15:16.50 debut in Northfield.
Scott is no stranger to the St. Olaf High School Showcase, as he finished first and third at the meet over the past two editions.
Combined with his summer training, experience and pure fitness, Scott produced his best debut yet and entered his name into the history books. Only 13 boys have ever broken 15:20 on the course. Scott was a mere six seconds from tying Hassan Mead's course record from way back in 2007.
But this was Scott's second time breaking 15:20 on the course, having done so at the MSHSL state championships last fall.
