In June 2021, Quincy Watts took over as the University of Southern California's director of track and field and cross country. He replaced Caryl Smith Gilbert, who left for Georgia shortly after leading the Trojans' women's team to the NCAA outdoor national title.
Watts had been a Trojans' assistant for eight seasons, working with the sprinters, hurdlers and relays. But the USC women struggled in Watts' first season, finishing 15th in the 2022 NCAA indoor meet and 30th in the national outdoor meet.
Still, it looks like last year's struggles will be a blip on the radar as Watts has put together one of the nation's best recruiting classes.
USC added to its class this week when it received a commitment from Jordan Washington, a sprinter from Gardena Serra (CA) who is MileSplit's No. 42 girls recruit in the Class of 2023.
