For the most part, it usually takes freshmen time to adjust to college track.
From the transitional phases of training and build-up, to newly-formed college life, to understanding the highs and lows of competition, most first-year athletes need a runway to get things started.
Still, several true freshmen excelled at last weekend's NCAA conference meets and could be contenders to place at the NCAA Championships on March 10 and 11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Below, we look at five athletes who excelled this past week across the U.S. This list only includes men who competed at the high school level in the U.S. and were part of the high school Class of 2022. It does not include athletes from other countries.
