As an assistant coach at the University of East Carolina in the mid- to late-1970s, Curtis Frye remembers seeing a high school sprinter named Carl Lewis.
It wasn't until watching Usain Bolt run in the mid- to late-2000s that Frye saw a teenager as talented as Lewis.
Frye marveled at Lewis and Bolt, who both became Olympic gold medalists and world record holders. Still, Frye, who has been the University of South Carolina's head track coach since 1996, watched from afar ... not up close.
Now, though, Frye can't believe his good fortune as later this year he'll have a chance to coach Nyckoles Harbor, an Archbishop Carroll (DC) sprinter and football player who signed with the Gamecocks on Wednesday.
