On Thursday, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Jesuit (LA) boys cross country coach Cullen Doody and the Saratoga Springs (NY) girls cross country coaching staff of Art and Linda Kranick as the 2022 National High School Cross Country Coaches Of The Year.

Doody and the Kranicks earned the national awards by a selection of esteemed coaches who were recognized with boys and girls coach of the year honors in their respective states.

The Jesuit boys cross country program entered the 2022 season as a top-ranked program and Doody led the team to perfection in the state of Louisiana with a 15-point score at the Division I state meet in November and an individual state winner in Jack DesRoches.

Doody also coached the team to a number of marquee finishes at a variety of invitational meets throughout the fall, including a team win at the Nike XC Town Twilight meet in Terre Haute, Indiana, and a fourth-place effort at the Garmin RunningLane XC Championships.

Jesuit ended the year at No. 10 on the MileSplit50 boys cross country team rankings.

The Saratoga Springs girls program also found more success in 2022, as is the norm for the Kranick coaching duo. The Kranicks helped the girls team to yet another Team Nationals title in December, beating out top-ranked girls squads from around the country.

En route to the Team Nationals win, the Kranicks led Saratoga Springs to dominant wins at the NYSPHSAA Class A State Championships and the New York Federation Championships, and even put five runners in the top seven overall finishers at the Federation Championships for a convincing 97-point win.

Saratoga Springs finished atop the MileSplit50 girls cross country team rankings following its national championship win.

Doody and the Kranicks will be honored for their achievements at the 2023 USTFCCCA Convention held in December in Denver.
