Florida's Best Take To RADD Sunshine Showcase

At the new state-of-the-art Alachua County indoor facility in Gainesville, Florida, some of the state's powerhouse teams and programs made yet another early-season statement.

Let's begin with Montverde Academy, which dominated on the first day of the invitational meet after opening up last weekend at The VA Showcase.

Issam Asinga, the newest addition to the Montverde squad, had another all-around stellar performance with a US No. 2 mark to win the 200m in 21.35 and a second-place finish in the 400m in 49.10. In fact, a Montverde crew dominated the boys 200m, with Zyaire Nuriddin and Micah Larry going 2-3 to complete a sweep of the top podium spots in the event.

It was a similar story in the boys long jump, too, as Montverde went 1-2-4 with Kyle Johnson, Kai Graves-Blanks and Guy Kohls, led by Johnson's winning mark of 22-4.

We could look to the girls 200m and 400m competitions to find even more dominance from the team. Michelle Smith and Adaejah Hodge clocked 400m times of 55.38 and 55.7 to grab the top two spots in the event, and Micayah Holland later won the girls 200m with a time of 23.73, which ranks among the best performances in the country so far this season.

Beyond the super team in Montverde, the RADD Sunshine Showcase saw a new U.S. No. 1 mark in the boys 800m of 1:50.58 from Miguel Pantojas.

Action continues today on the final day of competition at the RADD Sunshine Showcase, and you can follow along with our live stream.
