For the past few months, several top high school girl track stars have committed to the University of Kentucky, giving the Wildcats plenty of optimism for the future.

On Monday night, UK added to its recruiting class when Zaya Akins signed with the program during a ceremony at her high school, Raytown South (MO), a Kansas City suburb.

Akins is MileSplit's No. 15 girls recruit in the Class of 2023 and is among the U.S.'s best sprinters. During the 2022 outdoor season, she had the top 200m time in the U.S. (22.94 seconds), the fifth-fastest 400m time (52.88 seconds) and the 12th-fastest 100m time (11.32 seconds).

Kentucky and Stanford are the only two colleges to have signed five girls who are ranked in MileSplit's top 50 recruits.
