A large number of high school athletes, even major recruits, have an adjustment period when they enter college. They are not only acclimating to new academic and social environments, but they are also facing much better competition and longer distances in cross country.

Still, a few freshmen this fall have already proven they can compete at the highest level of college running.

Below, we look at the 15 true freshmen women who ran at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Oklahoma. This list only includes women who ran at the high school level in the U.S. and were part of the high school Class of 2022. It does not include runners from other countries.
