In a race where five runners went under the all-time record at Pole Green Park, St. Potomac School's (VA) Charlie Ortmans responded with aplomb after his prolific debut, making (arguably) an even bigger statement with a course record in 14:40.00.

Ortmans, along with St. Albans School's (DC) Pierre Attiogbe, both went under the former mark of 14:49.00, which was last achieved by Waleed Suliman in 2016.

And yet, the all-time effort didn't stop there.

On a course that only saw three runners go under 15 minutes in course history, a total of five met that barrier on Saturday, with Mills Godwin's (VA) Berkley Nance going 14:51.00, James Rivers' (VA) Quinn Parrish posting a time of 14:54.00 and Blacksburg's (VA) Conner Rutherford clocking a time of 14:59.00.

What certainly helped on the day, though, were ideal conditions, which found a flat and pristine course, 50-degree temperatures and a competitive field.

Ortmans lowered his 5K personal best by 39 seconds, while Attiogbe dropped it by 17 seconds, Nance by 37 seconds, Parrish by 47 seconds and Rutherford under 13 seconds.

A total of seven runners went 15:10 or faster, while a total of 21 went under 15:35.

Historically, the race was an outlier, but Ortmans certainly had proved his mettle earlier in September, winning at the Oatlands Invitational in 15:19.00, which was the second-fastest performance on the course ever, only behind former Foot Locker Nationals winner Drew Hunter.
