The Tuohy family's genes are strong when it comes to running.

On Saturday in New York, Ryan Tuohy crossed the finish line at the Manhattan Invitational as the third-fastest runner in the Varsity A race with a time of 13:12.60 for 4K on the historic Van Cortlandt Park course.

His sister, Katelyn, was a legendary athlete who won three national championships during her tenure with North Rockland High School -- and she's currently a star athlete at NC State, too.

Ryan said he grew up watching his older sister and brother fall in love with running and he felt that he should dedicate some time to see where the sport can take him.

"My main goal is to get close to [Katelyn], but no one can be as good as her," Ryan told MileSplit's Olivia Ekpone after his meet in New York. "I enjoyed growing up and watching [the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational]. Sports are in my blood. When I'm running, I always think of her, she's my motivation, and the same with my brother. Watching them race, and growing up with them, has been a big help. I have a lot of tools to help me out in this career."

While Ryan's running career has just begun, he says he's looking to gain experience in every race and do the best he can when he toes the line.
