Future Stars: Young Stars Have Emerged Outdoors

2. Makeriah Harris, Scotlandville (LA)

- - -

Year: 2024

Event: 100mH, 300mH

When and Where: Texas Southern Relays, TX

Performance: Harris dropped a U.S. No. 1 performance of 41.74 seconds in the 300mH and a U.S. No. 4 mark of 13.80 in the 100mH at the Texas Southern Relays.

The country's top returning 400mH certainly was no surprise to anyone in track and field. But the beginning of her 2022 season is already giving signs to the growth of one of Louisiana's top talents.

Her progress in the 100mH is where she's made the biggest leap. At this time last year, Harris was running in the low 14 seconds. This past weekend, she broke 14 in both the prelims and finals -- only coming up short to Simone Ballard and Tairah Johnson at the finish line.
