Rutgers first caught my attention when it was announced last spring that Kaitlyn Mooney, an NCAA Division III national champion at the Coast Guard, was joining the Scarlet Knights at the start of this academic year.

It was a slightly surprising move, especially for a program that is not necessarily known for its distance events, but atypical recruiting decisions are made all of the time in the NCAA.

In my mind, this was likely one of those instances.

But then I looked further into Rutgers 2021 recruiting class, and it was admittedly better than I expected.

On the women's side, the Scarlet Knights boast a group of incoming freshmen including Charlee Crawford of St. Georges Tech (DE), Alianna Eucker of Westwood (NJ) and Alexandra Carlson of North Hunterdon (NJ).
