Finishing Off The Season In Alaska

- - -

The fall was a different kind of season in Alaska.

Gone was the star power that exuded in recent seasons from distinguished names like Tristian Merchant, Santiago Prosser, Kendall Kramer or Naomi Bailey

But state championships are state championships.

In the end, they're up for the taking.

And on Saturday on the Bartlett High School trails, West Valley (AK) senior Daniel Abramowicz covered the 5K distance faster than anyone in the state, winning the ASAA Division I race in 16:12.00. The next closest runner was 17 seconds away.

The Division I girls race, meanwhile, featured South Anchorage's Robyn Miller, who covered the distance in 19:10.6.

No team was as dominant in the state, however, as Grace Christian, which snatched both the Division II boys and Division II girls races, including a rather sterling mark of 20 points in the latter race.

It was in the DII boys showdown that junior David Sliwinski -- who entered with the top time in the state -- connected for his first state title in 16:44.9.
