The Tallahassee Leon (FL) High School sophomore kicked off his season in a big way by winning the Cecil Field Summer Classic in Jacksonville.
At that meet, Koon beat some of the top guys in the state of Florida and put his name in the hat for a potential FHSA Class 3A state title. Last year as a freshman, he finished fifth overall at state.
His time of 15:15.00 at the Cecil Field Summer Classic race was a new course record and was speed-rated at a184. That was also the top underclassmen speed rating in the nation and was tied for the seventh-best speed rating overall out of any athlete in the nation.
In his second race of the season, Koon took home another win running the Big Bend Cross Country Invitational. His time there was 15:32.00.
