Every now and then, top collegiate standouts opt to make a change and transfer to a new program.
That's exactly what we're seeing with Cruz Culpepper, the Class of 2020 superstar who was among the nation's absolute best distance talents in high school.
The Colorado native from Niwot High School ultimately signed and then ventured to the University of Washington, a top distance program headed by Andy Powell.
The move made sense, at least on paper.
Culpepper was a fantastic miler in high school, boasting a then-personal best of 4:00, which paired nicely with his 800m PR of 1:48 and a 20th-place finish at Team Cross Country Nationals.
Simply put, Culpepper's resume fit the Huskies mold of being a mile-centric group with the aim of translating that success to the other events, specifically on the grass.
