Few programs were more talented and more accomplished than the Houston men during the 2019 indoor and outdoor track seasons. In fact, the Cougars ended each of those seasons ranked at second and third in the nation, respectively.

The biggest reason behind that success? Success in the sprints.

The men from the University of Houston -- a program aptly nicknamed "Speed City" -- dominated the NCAA leaderboard during the winter and spring of 2019.

Led by legendary coaches Leroy Burrell and Carl Lewis, Houston's 2019 group injected an exciting and refreshing jolt of energy into collegiate track and field.

However, since then Speed City has been a bit quieter. The Cougars still had a handful of names scattered throughout the NCAA's indoor leaderboard last winter, but many of their top sprinters from 2019 had finished their eligibility. As a result, Houston was left unranked at the end of the shortened 2020 indoor track season.
