Could there end up being a rush to land top pole vault talents this year, specifically on the boys side?
That was the question I asked myself as I went through the recent hierarchy of pole vault talents around the country.
Here's a fun fact: During the most recent indoor track season, 83 boys from the Class of 2020 cleared 15-feet (or higher) in the pole vault. In that same season, just 33 boys from the Class of 2021 were able to clear 15-0.
When we look at the 2020 high school outdoor track season, which offered limited competitive opportunities due to the pandemic, 55 seniors cleared 15-0 or higher. However, only 27 junior boys cleared 15-0 during the spring, which was only half of the then-senior class.
And on the girls side?
Well, the reason that we won't be talking about the girls as much is because their rankings tell us a bit of a different story.
