In The Know: The Seven Best Meets This Weekend

3. Milaca Mega Meet

- - -

Description: So how 'mega' is the Milaca Mega Meet? It reportedly has over 6,700 runners expected to race on Saturday. And it's mostly Minnesotan runners at the line, too. On the boys side, the Division I race will feature a strong Saint Paul Mounds View (MN) team that reached Nike Cross Nationals last year. The squad is ranked No. 1 in Minnesota as it stands, but it will have its fair share of contenders like Perham (MN) and Stillwater (MN). Meanwhile, the girls race will feature MileSplit50 No. 2 Wayzata.

Importantly, the Trojans are expected to be at full strength. That means No. 1 Emma Atkinson should take the pole position, while athletes like Abby Nechanicky, Caroline Sassan, Lauren McCollor and Grace Link should help lessen the overall compression. September is an important time for cross country teams looking to build rhythm and consistency, which makes Milaca a venue worth running well at. But this meet will also act as a precursor for the Roy Griak Invitational next week. So perhaps it's only a engine-starter for some of these teams, too. Beyond Wayzata, teams from Stillwater (MN), Eden Prairie (MN and Forest Lake (MN) are also expected to contend.
