The Scoop: Recapping Major State Championship Action

The Indiana State Meet Breakdown

1. It was a battle to the line in the 1600m. All four of the state's top finishers had met each other over the cross country season and had competed for every step across the spring. But Evansville senior Matthew Schadler came away on Saturday with the title as Indiana's top 1600m runner, finishing in 4:07.83. Indianapolis Cathedral junior Cole Hocker was second (4:08.04), Jesse Hamlin was third (4:12.14) and Gabe Fendel was fourth (4:14.07).

2. Speed check. North Central's 4x800 boys ran to a US No. 4 time of 7:44.07, which ranks No. 8 on our Indiana leaderboard all-time

3. Nathan Patterson left no question. Just a week and a half after posting a career best of 7-3.5, the Plymouth senior raised the bar and nailed a state record and US No. 1 mark of 7-4. He said afterward, "I came in here today and said, 'I'm not losing this today.'

4. Brebeuf Jesuit Prep junior Semira Killebrew has been the state's best sprinter for 2018, and she finished off her season impressively, nailing a US No. 8 time of 11.55 (+0.5).

5. The nation's top high jumper, Katie Isenbarger, didn't clear 6-feet like she previously has this season. But the Zionsville Community senior still didn't do so bad, going over the bar at 5-11 for the third straight outing.

6. Warren Central junior long jumper Prommyse Hoosier landed a career-best and wind-legal 20-1.25 (-0.1) attempt to score her second straight title at the event.
