Hasty in the mile at the Music City Distance Carnival last spring.
Are you ready for the nation's best returning miler to go for a big time in a field of professionals?
A year ago, University of Oregon signee Brodey Hasty was paced at the Music City Distance Carnival to an outdoor 4:01.75 mile, the fifth best effort of 2017 and the No. 1 mark for returning juniors.
Now Hasty may finally be ready to eclipse that performance on Saturday. He's entered in the men's mile at the Dr. Sander Invitational at The Armory on Saturday. Hasty holds an indoor mile PR of 4:08.04 from last year's NYRR Millrose Games, but he's coming off a hard effort in the 1K at the VA Showcase and in the 1600m during Brentwood XC Club's 10:20.04 effort in the DMR.
He finished third in the 1K in a slightly underwhelming performance in Virginia, but Hasty could be ready for much bigger things here.
He will be in a talented field with some of the best distance runners in the country, including Ole Miss graduate and Nike Oregon runner Craig Engels, Brooks Beasts athlete Brannon Kidder, current University of Oregon runner Blake Haney and 3:52.62 miler Patrick Casey.
"The Armory is just the place," Hasty's coach, Guy Avery, said. "It's where all these great events have taken place. And Brodey had a great experience from New Balance last year."
Almost every runner in the filed has run either sub-four indoors or outdoors in their career. Last year at this meet, New Balance athlete Andrew Butchart won the mile in 3:54.23, while Hoka One One athlete Ford Palmer was second in 3:58.78.
"The venue and the energy in NYC at the Armory is like no other," Avery said. "It's the personality of NYC, combined with people who love track and who really appreciate the sport. And any athlete would love to run in that environment."
