The Scoop: An Emerging Sprinter, Potential Hurdle Greats And All-Time Performances

3. Potential Hurdle Greats

One of the more interesting storylines to follow this season is that of hurdlers Eric Edwards and Grace Stark.

In Edwards' case, the Langham Creek (TX) High senior and Oregon signee has a chance to potentially go after a national record in the 60mH.

He opened up his season on Saturday at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic and ran a new U.S. No. 1 best of 7.78 seconds. But there's still quite some way to go before he eclipses Trey Cunningham's best of 7.40 seconds, which the former Winfield City (AL) High star achieved at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

What's interesting to note, however, is that the 60mH national record has gone down in consecutive seasons. Grassfield (VA) High's Grant Holloway went 7.53 seconds in 2016 before Cunningham broke that mark twice in 2017.

Stark, on the other hand, is just a junior from White Lake Lakeland (MI) High and set a new U.S. No. 1 mark of 8.37. Can she break eight seconds?

Two years ago, Tonea Marshall set the national record of 8.02 seconds at New Balance Nationals Indoor. Stark may present one of the best one of the best competitors to go after that mark, but she won't be the only one. Oregon signee Emily Sloan (8.38) is in the picture to possibly set a new record as well.
