Dustin Horter Posts The First Sub-15 Minute 5K Effort Of The Fall

Dustin Horter is off to a hot start.

The Lakota East (Ohio) High senior, who is ranked No. 11 on our Flo50 boys rankings and finished 30th at NXN a year ago, posted the first sub-15 minute effort of the season Saturday at the Lakota East Classic with a U.S. No. 2 time of 14:56.00 -- his time was beaten later in the day by another Ohio athlete, Chad Johnson.

The performance, which is three seconds better than his best of 14:59.90 in 2016 and is 57 seconds faster than his time on this course last year, comes on the heels of another great outing at Ohio State Athletic Association Early Season Invitational when he posted a U.S. No. 1 of 15:18.20.

Horter outpaced the next fastest runner by nearly 80 seconds and led Lakota East to a second-place team effort. He's vying for his second straight state title in Ohio this season, which would be a first in the state since 2010.
