National Weekend Rundown: One For The Record Books

Sydney McLaughlin Improves #2 All-Time 300m

Francena McCorory's 36.97 national high school record for 300m may be safe for quite awhile. 2016 Olympian Sydney McLaughlin's record attempt at the NYRR Millrose Games came up just short, as she ran 37.09 to place fourth overall in the Women's Invitational field.

The time improves her own No. 2 all-time mark, which previously stood at 37.11.

The 17-year-old finished behind only Shaunae Miller, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist for 400m; Ashley Spencer, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist for 400m hurdles; and Natasha Hastings, who ran on Team USA's gold medalist 4x400m relay team at the Rio Games.

McLaughlin broke McCorory's 400m record of 51.93 last indoor season by clocking 51.84 to win New Balance Nationals Indoor. The 400m, not the 300m, is contested at the New Jersey championships, and McLaughlin says she will not make another record attempt.
