Workout Wednesday: Elizabeth Leachman Hits The 'Michigan'

The Brooks PR Invitational arrives Wednesday and all eyes will be on the girls two mile race.

In what could be the fastest race the meet has ever seen, Elizabeth Leachman from Boerne Champion High School has a chance to break the standing record.

The current (national) record is 9:50.70, set in 2022 by Dalia Frias.

Leachman's PR in the two mile is 9:44.16 and is coming off two state titles at the Texas UIL Championships in the 1,600m and 3,200m.

Leachman ran at, but did not finish, the women's 5,000m at the Portland Track Festival on Sunday.

Entered in the field is Jane Hedengren, Addison Ritzenhein,  Allie Zealand and Isabel Allori, among others. In November, MileSplit followed Leachman as she went through "The Michigan."

Leachman said that she tries to focus on how she would feel during a race and how the pain from a workout to then will be similar.

"If I can push through in the workout when it really doesn't matter as much, I can help push through in the race remembering what I've done in the past," Leachman said.

The girls two mile race is set to start Wednesday, June 12 at 3:47 pm PST.

Note: The seeds are a mixture of 3,200m and 2-mile times
