Alaska State Championships (AK)

October 04, 2014 Bartlett High School in Anchorage, AK

In her final Alaska state cross country championships, Allie Ostrander of Kenai Central made sure that her name would be etched in the record books as the all-time great for her state and for a long while in that by breaking the 31 year old state meet record by 44 seconds in her 17:06 win at the Bartlett High School 5K course. Now the question begins if Ostrander, one of the top runners in the country, will attempt to train and extend her season over two months in the approaching Alaska winter to compete for a national title at Foot Locker Nationals or Nike Cross Nationals.

A second meet record almost went down for the boys with US #14 Levi Thomet of Kodiak finishing just 3 seconds off Trevor Dunbar's 15:07 meet record with a season best time of 15:10 from the 2013 Foot Locker finalist Thomet. If Ostrander needs advice on how to extend her season in Alaska to compete at nationals, she can ask Thomet. Both won their third straight Alaska 4A state titles on Saturday and had no competition around them with Ostrander's margin of victory at 98 seconds and Thomet at 33.

Thomet led the Kodiak boys to their first state title since 2008, which was led by coach Marcus Dunbar's son Trevor at the time. The West Anchorage girls claimed the 4A title.
