9/13 High School XC Weekend Recap

First to the Finish Line Invitational (IL) 

September 13, 2014 Detweiller Park in Peoria, IL

The first of 3 major invitationals on the home for the Illinois state course at Detweiler Park. US #9 ranked Jesse Reiser of McHenry (IL) continues to move up on the Detweiler Park all-time list with his 14:20 3 mile win on Saturday at the First to the Finish Line Invitational in the Class AAA boys race. Reiser, the AAA state outdoor 3200 champ, was able to break away from the field for a 12 second win with Ryan Clevenger (2nd, 14:32) of Downers Grove North as the closest runner to give Reiser chase.

Hinsdale Central girls upset US #6 ranked Naperville North by 69 points with impressive front running put 3 in the top 4 places behind race champion Alexa Haff (16:41) and teammates Annie Zaher (3rd, 17:04) and Reilly Revord (4th, 17:18).  Only Lauren Van Vlierbergen (2nd, 17:00) was able to break up the Hinsdale Central girls top 3.

With the Hinsdale Central girls claiming first, it allowed for a complete team sweep of the AAA races by the program with their boys grabbing a decisive win with their score of 86 points against one of their top state challengers in Neuqua Valley (2nd, 153 points) for a landslide victory on the Illinois state meet course. The defending 3A state champions from Illinois had 3 guys under 15 minutes on the 3 mile course at Detweiler, while their fifth man was not far behind in 29th place at 15:09.
